The organization was founded in October 2013 by current CEO Brandon Beck and president Marc Merrill, two of the three co-founders of Riot Games, developer of League of Legends. So in this following blog post, I will give a brief overview of the organization’s history and what they’re doing now.

When was Lol esports founded?

Lol Esports was founded in October 2013 by current CEO Brandon Beck and president Marc Merrill, two of the three co-founders of Riot Games, developer of League of Legends. The organization was created to give back to LOL esports community.

As background knowledge, there are currently thirteen professional competitive “Leagues” that each supports their unique game version (or client) for gamers to play on. Riot Games is responsible for developing and maintaining League of Legends (founded by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill), while Lol Esports only manages League of Legends. Each League generally has its separate competitive community and development team (except for cross-League events like Rift Rivals and All-Star), and Lol Esports operates as a subsidiary to Riot Games.

This was not Lol esports first attempt at starting an esports organization. Previously, they were able to create one for Starcraft II, but it eventually failed.

The top six teams from each region at the end of Summer Playoffs make it to Worlds, where they compete for the title of World Champion.
